Movement City strives to provide all of our members with opportunities to develop, not just creatively, but academically as well. On average, 95% of Movement City youth members graduate high school on time. To this end, we designate both time and space to helping youth complete their homework before heading to creative workshops. In addition to tutoring and homework help, MC’s academic support staff maintain regular communication with teachers and parents and a consistent presence within Lawrence Public Schools.
College and Career Readiness
Movement City supports youth with pursuing the post-graduation path of their choice by intentionally providing members with guidance and resources that will best prepare them for bright futures. These resources include:
- College and career fair field trips
- FAFSA and scholarship application navigation
- Feedback and support with writing college & high school essays
- Resume building and mock interview workshops
- Academic scholarships from the Armand Hyatt Scholarship Fund
Leadership Development
To supplement the creative and academic growth of Movement City members, we also provide programming that allows youth to find and develop their own style of leadership. Activities include:
- Paid internship and summer job opportunities
- Camping, hiking, and other outdoor adventure trips
- Health and fitness workshops
- Civic engagement initiatives
- Community art projects
